What instruments do you teach and to what level?
I am primarily an electric guitarist/bassist and have taught students up to diploma level. Stylistically I specialise in rock, blues, funk, country and fusion. I have many years of experience teaching all age ranges and abilities.
Do you have insurance and a DBS certificate?
As I work in local schools I require a DBS certificate and I'll be happy to show it to you when you come for your first lesson. I've been teaching for over twenty years now in educational establishments so have a good understanding of safeguarding procedures. I am also a member of the Musicians Union which means that I have public liability insurance.
What is the teaching setup at your home?
Lessons take place in my conservatory that has a tiled roof and plenty of room. Students will be provided with an amp and lead but will be expected to bring their own guitar however I do have spares if required.
There is side gate access leading directly to the teaching space and ample off road parking.
If you wish to wait inside as your child has their lesson this is fine, the living room is an L shape that adjoins the conservatory so you will have semi privacy from my wife, child and geriatric greyhound!
What style are the lessons?
My teaching style is essentially student led, I will teach you what you want to learn and direct you on the right path to achieving your goals. Bearing this in mind I do find it helps to have some kind of teaching book to refer to in order to add a bit of structure and context to things, especially with younger students. Ultimately its up to you though, if you just want to learn songs that is fine, just as it is ok to aspire to gain grade 8.
